How to Make the Best Cup of Coffee with Even Coffee
How do you make a perfect cup of coffee?
Making a perfect cup of coffee starts with high-quality beans, precise measurements, and the right brewing method. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Use Fresh, High-Quality Coffee Beans – Freshly roasted, whole beans ensure the best flavor. Grind them just before brewing for optimal freshness.
- Use Clean, Filtered Water – Since coffee is mostly water, the quality of your water greatly affects the taste.
- Choose the Right Brewing Method – French press and pour over are excellent choices for extracting rich flavors.
- Measure Correctly – Use the ideal coffee-to-water ratio for balanced extraction.
- Control Your Brew Time and Temperature – Aim for water between 195°F and 205°F and brew for the recommended time for each method.
- Enjoy Immediately – Freshly brewed coffee tastes best right after preparation.
What method produces the best cup of coffee?
The best method depends on personal preference, but two of the most flavorful and eco-friendly methods are:
French Press
French press brewing extracts full-bodied, rich flavors by steeping coarse coffee grounds in hot water before pressing the grounds with a plunger. It does not require paper filters, making it an eco-friendly option.
Pour Over
Pour over coffee is known for its clean, bright flavor. By using a slow, manual pouring technique, this method allows for precise control over brewing. To keep it eco-friendly, use a reusable mesh filter instead of disposable paper filters.
What is the perfect coffee ratio for a coffee maker?
The ideal coffee-to-water ratio ensures a balanced and flavorful cup. Here are some general guidelines:
- French Press: 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio (e.g., 1 gram of coffee per 15 grams of water)
- Pour Over: 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio (e.g., 30 grams of coffee for 480 grams of water)
- Standard Drip Coffee Maker: 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water
Adjust to taste—stronger coffee requires more coffee per water volume.
What is the secret to good coffee?
The secret to a great cup of coffee is a combination of factors:
- Freshness Matters – Use fresh, high-quality coffee beans and grind them just before brewing.
- Water Quality – Filtered water prevents unwanted flavors from affecting your coffee.
- Precision – Measure your coffee and water accurately for consistent results.
- Brew Time & Temperature – Keep water between 195°F and 205°F and brew for the appropriate duration based on the method.
- Eco-Friendly Practices – Use sustainable filters, reusable coffee accessories, and responsibly sourced beans to enjoy great coffee with minimal environmental impact.

Even Coffee
Our mission at Even Coffee is two fold.
First, we provide high quality fair trade coffee that is always a medium roast. This ensures that our customers get the rich tasting notes that our coffee has to offer.
Next, we donate 25% of our net revenue to ensure that those who cannot afford therapy are able to benefit from it.
How do we donate?
Are we a registered charity?
We are currently raising the funds to register correctly as a charity and make sure that we do it right.
We anticipate filling 501c(3) in 2025.
Where does the money donated go right now?
Right now the money that we are donating is going to current sliding scale patients at the Mind Body Co-op of Chicago and their clinicians.
Does the donation only go to the patient?
No. For every dollar donated to a patient's therapy their therapist also gets a dollar. Therapists don't make very much money to see clients even when insurance covers the bill. They make even less with sliding scale clients.
